Events At Sydney Opera House – Nov 2016 to Jan 2017

The world famous and iconic Sydney Opera House has a complete events listings throughout the year. Some of the most famous artists in the world have appeared, and want to appear on such a famous stage.

Here is what is coming up this summer:

Zukerman plays Tchaikovsky and Mozart

November 10th – 12th

Tchaikovsky shares the stage with his favourite composer, and violinist Pinchas Zukerman directs in a program that will bring beauty and excitement to Sydney. The program includes, Souvenir d”un lieu cher:Melodie, Serenade melancolique by Tchaikovsky. And Violin Concerto No.3 in G by Mozart.

The Sydney Symphony Orchestra is directed by Pinchas Zukerman, who is also the lead violin.

Van-Anh & Friends Gala Concert

December 5th

Concert pianist, composer and TV host, Van-Anh Nguyen comes back to Sydney for a one-night only together with her family and some of Sydney’s finest musicians.

Van-Anh will be playing solo Chopin piano works along with her well known classical crossover arrangements. Her family will accompany Van-Anh on stage including her mother, Oanh (soprano), Xuan-Anh her father (classical guitarist) and Viet-Anh her brother (pianist).

The second half of the program sees the introduction of Hanna Oblikov (cello), Alex Norton (violin), and Mark Olsen (percussion), who will accompany Van-Anh in duo, trio and quartet works.

New Year’s Eve

December 31st

New Year’s Eve is the night when the world celebrates the turn of the year with Sydney. The city puts its best face on to show the world how to celebrate, as a festival of fire explodes across the sky.

There will be two performances on the night; a full performance of Puccini’s La Boheme or the Opera Gala, featuring favourites by the famous composers.

Interval time is the 9pm fireworks, and the Opera House stays open well past the midnight fireworks.

Cavalleria Rusticana / Pagliacci

January 12th

A double dose of classic Italian opera comes to the Opera House early in the New Year. These two short operas explore the full spectrum of emotion, passionate love, consuming love and finally bitter suffering and boundless rage.

Diego Torre sings the famous “Vesti la giubba” as he performs both challenging tenor roles in one evening, and the Opera Australia Chorus sings the famous Easter Hymn as Dragana Radakovic’s soprano voice soars above.

King Roger

January 20th

The modern opera by Szymanowski is rarely heard on the grand opera stage, so take this seldom offered chance to hear a 20th-century Polish masterpiece.

The story is about a monarch, King Roger who watches his wife dance whilst under a spell. He struggles with his own passions, choosing between the sacred love he knows and the sensuous, glittering realm of hedonism the shepherd preaches.

Andrea Molino conducts a cast led by Arthur Espiritu, Lorina Gore and Michael Honeyman.
