Pre Show Entertainment
At 6pm the evening’s official celebrations commence, and are a delight of the air and the water. First prepared to be thrilled as flying ace Matt Hall masterminds an aerial display just designed for the occasion.
50 minutes later a tug boat then takes the centre stage on Sydney Harbour with a stunning water display, heralding the return of the daredevil aviator Matt Hall on the strike of 8pm.
Welcome To Country
At 8:38 precisely is the Welcome To Country presentation, and the theme for this year’s ceremony is Walking on Country. The ceremony reflects the respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, their heritage and living culture.
The ritual of releasing Eucalyptus smoke over the water, symbolises the cleansing of Sydney Harbour of any bad spirits. Flares are lit and spectacular images on the pylons celebrate Eora country.
Family Fireworks Display
The first fireworks display scheduled at 9pm allow children and families who may want to go home before midnight the chance to experience a spectacular display. The 8 minute extravaganza includes fireworks released from 4 barges in the water and a number from Sydney Harbour Bridge. 2Day FM broadcasts the specially choreographed soundtrack live for all the children in Sydney.
Harbour Of Light Parade
A spectacular display is next at 9:15 when the whole of Sydney Harbour is illuminated with ships traversing the Harbour, which will bring excitement and awe from the gathered spectators of every age group.
Each vessel is decorated with virgin white ropelights, dazzling the audience and adding another element to the unique choreography as they dance in the harbour.
Midnight Firework Display
After all the preceding tempting events on the stroke of midnight the main event takes place, whilst the whole world watches on ready to partake in their own new year’s celebrations.
The twelve minute display features a huge range of pyrotechnics from seven barges in Sydney Harbour plus firing points from across Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House.
The best way to ensure you capture the whole proceedings is to arrive early and secure your vantage point.
