Sporting Events In Sydney – November 2016 – January 2017

As everybody is aware, Australians love their sport, and the residents from Sydney are no different.

Because of the position of the city so many events can take place in the iconic surroundings and architecture of perhaps the most vibrant Australian city of all.

Here we take a peek at the upcoming sporting events between November and January 2017.

International Beach Festival

3rd – 6th November

A four day festival of sport and fun where the sand meets the sea. The festival village is located in Dunningham Park and is a great place to relax and enjoy the fantastic atmosphere with family and friends. Located in the village are market stalls, retailers, live bands, a plethora of food stalls, bars along with the iconic Cinema by the Sea.

Sporting events taking place are the, International Women’s Pro beach-break surfing, Mile & Ocean swim, Iron Woman Competition, Battle of the Bridge, International Junior Challenge amongst many other exciting sand and sea competitions.

The Emirates Australian Open Golf Championship

17th – 20th November

The Emirates Open in 2016 will return to the glamorous Royal Sydney Golf Club from the 17th – 20th November.

The Australian Open is the most prestigious golf competition held in Australia, it has over a hundred year history and has a rich tradition that every Australian golfer wants to win.

There will be for certain a highly impressive international line-up of golfers participating and doing battle for the highly esteemed Stonehaven Cup.

Macquarie Bondi to Bronte Ocean Swim

December 4th

On December the 4th the 16th annual Macquarie Bondi to Bronte Ocean Swim takes places on Sunday December 4th. The Bondi to Bronte is one of Sydney’s and for that matter Australia’s most iconic ocean swims. Starting at Bondi Beach and swimmers finish their race at Bronte SLSC, which is the world’s first Surf Life Saving Club.

The course starts and finishes on Bondi Beach, so all swimmers can have their family, friends and supporters to help cheer them on from start to finish.

The course distance is around 800m, however the final distance depends on the weather on the day.

Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race

26th December

Boxing Day will see the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race take place on the waters of Sydney Harbour, the Tasman Sea, Storm Bay and the Derwent River. During the last seventy years the race has become an icon of Australia’s summer sport, almost as popular as the Melbourne Cup, Davis Cup and the Ashes Test Match. There is no regular annual yachting event in the world that attracts such media activity than the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.

All comers take part from sailors of maxi yachts to weekend racers, which starts at Nielsen Park in Sydney Harbour and takes the International fleet 628 nautical miles to the finish line in the Derwent River, Hobart.
