Sydney Harbour Bed & Breakfast
Australia’s birthplace is known as The Rocks established in 1788. Named for the magnificent buildings made from the very sandstone the buildings rise from. Many of the historic buildings in the district were convict built as Sydney was initially a penal colony. The Sydney Harbour Bed & Breakfast is centrally located in this historic district among many heritage protected buildings. The Sydney Harbour B&B is a classic style bed & breakfast taking advantage of it’s rustic look, and neighbors to give their guests a uniquely Australian experience.
The location is superb with iconic sites just a short walk away, such as the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge, the Botanic Gardens, and of course the CBD and everything it has to offer. Right outside the doors are literally hundreds of shops and cafes providing everything from coffee and snacks, to fine art, homewares, and rare vintages of wine from nearby vineyards.
Take a step back in time when you stay at the fully restored heritage protected mansion, filled with antique furnishings and local pieces of art. This building is 110 years old and used to be two boarding houses that are mirrored, and split by matching antique staircases. Experience a classic bed & breakfast while getting to visit Bondi Beach, or check out a ghost tour right at The Rocks. There are so many things to see and do and we can think of no better location for base of operations than the Sydney Harbour Bed & Breakfast.
In 2014 the Sydney Harbour Bed & Breakfast was awarded a Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence.
Rooms
All rooms are furnished with a luxurious queen size bed chosen specifically to provide comfort and a good nights sleep. The furniture is all hand crafted and gorgeous to look at. The attention is in the details. Each boutique room is named for a famous person who helped shape the very history of Australia.
On the first floor off to the right are two rooms. The Bligh room is a medium room overlooking the courtyard and shares a bathroom with the Barton room which is an extra large room with a balcony and an extra single bed. These two rooms make a wonderful suite for a family or couple traveling together. Rates begin at $165 and $175 and additional people will be charged at the rate of $50 each.
Travel up the staircase on the right side and you will find two more rooms. The Cook room is a medium room with a large en suite bathroom, and you can even get a peak of the Opera House from here. The Lachlan room is a large room designed for families with a queen and two singles. There is a private large bathroom in the hall that is exclusively for guests staying in the Lachlan room. Second floor rooms start at $240 per night.
On the left side of the building you have a mirror image of the right side. Banks Room and Flinders Room are on the first floor and like the other side they share the use of one bathroom. Banks room has a view overlooking Long’s Lane, an historic walking lane. Flinders room overlooks Cumberland Street. Pricing for the Banks and Flinders room are the same as for Bligh and Barton.
The Philip Room on the second floor has an unobstructed view of the Opera House and the price reflects the difference in view. I think for $10 difference getting the full view is worthwhile. Guests will enjoy an en suite bathroom as well in the Philip room. The Macquarie room is a spacious family room with a queen size bed and a single bed and it has the exclusive use of the hall bathroom.
Parkes room on the ground floor is a large apartment style room. It has a large bedroom with a queen bed, a small bedroom with a single bed (another can be added) and it has a separate living area with dining table and a small kitchenette. The Parkes room is great for families, anyone wishing to entertain, or cook, and also for anyone that wants to stay longer term and have a more home like atmosphere. The Parkes room starts at $255 per night.
Dining
The dining options on property are not extensive but they are delicious. Choose from hot or cold breakfast either served in your room, or in the courtyard.
Out the door literally in any direction are hundreds of places to get a meal.
Hotel Amenities
Each room is air conditioned, most have coffee and tea making facilities. Wifi is available throughout the property, and the courtyard is available for guests to use. Each room also has a TV and a Queen size bed. Some rooms have singles available in addition to the queen and more singles can be added for an additional cost depending on room size. The service is very good and they always try to accommodate special requests by guests.
Special Events
The mansion can be rented as a whole for a special event or large party, you need to contact them directly for event enquiries.
Within a Ten Minute Walk
Sydney Opera House
Several of the rooms have a view of the Opera House as it is only a short stroll away. The Sydney Opera House offers guided tours of the facilities taking people to places they would normally never get to see, like the orchestra pit, the green rooms, and backstage. If you have ever been interested in touring a theatre this one is by sight one of the most recognizable theatres in the world.
Harbour Bridge
Another world famous landmark the Sydney Harbour bridge is just a few minutes walk. Climb one of the worlds most recognizable engineering feats of all time. The Harbour Bridge Climb will give you a view of Sydney Harbour very few people ever get to experience.
Botanical Gardens
Being a few minutes walk from the CBD it seems unlikely that a walk that takes under ten minutes can also take you to serenity that transports you out of the city. Within the city center is the Royal Botanical Gardens. Home to thousands of plant species. The Botanical Gardens are beautiful and peaceful and should not be missed.
CBD
The Rocks are just northwest of the Sydney CBD. A ten minute walk and you will find yourself right in the middle of downtown where the options just magnify ten fold.
The Sydney Harbour Bed & Breakfast located at The Rocks is a family friendly B&B with a spectacular location. Walking distance to so many of Sydney’s attractions and heritage protected buildings. Take a step back in time and see Sydney in the premier location, the original, The Rocks.
